The Urban Farm
The Urban Farm is an initiative from the community with support from Splash Adelaide for the creation of a green edible garden precinct on Ebenezer Place and Vardon Avenue in the heart of Adelaide’s vibrant East End.
Throughout the world there has been a noticeable movement for locally grown produce. This can be seen from rooftop gardens of restaurants and apartments, to green walls in urban spaces of some of the world’s biggest cities. People are recognising the health value of home grown food as the plants are grown for nutrition and not mass production, thus increasing the quality of the food.
Adelaide city is a great location to encourage this urban garden movement. We have taken inspiration from the Old Adelaide Produce Markets and lined the streets of the Adelaide East End with planter boxes full of herbs, vegetables and flowers.
These planter beds have been efficiently designed with a reservoir and internal composting system for minimal maintenance.
We hope this project will show Adelaide that growing your own food is easy and sustainable, can be done anywhere, and the added greenery looks great!
